Wheather it's base/wainscotting or crown moulding in example, a 45 degree cut is half a true 90. So it won't matter to the pro if it's exact or otherwise, but it CAN take away any guess work for the week-end warrior and alot of chalking. That's a creosote coating (image below) brushed on the SUB-SUFACE of the timber prior to buring, atop a bed of rocks. While finishing the aggregate (concrete mix), its recommended to leave a slope away from the post so water (rain/sprinklers) is never forced to evaporate or rest next to the timber. Tip "o" the Week ; A Wooden Plug is simply a deterent to hide . Easy on the eye's to not have to look at the screw it's camouflaging . So the ability for further disguising this necessity will be appling it with the Grain before gluing it in place . Depending on the species of timber and application , all these will vary of course .
